If creating a budget is turning out to be more difficult than you thought, don’t worry — it’s not your fault.
By now, you know that budgeting is an essential part of getting your financial life on track. But if you’ve tried to build a budget, you’ve probably run into some common challenges that can make the process frustrating.
Let’s face it: Math can be hard. For most of us, budgeting is a process of trial and error, and sometimes it can feal like it’s causing us more pain than peace.
The good news is that most of the budget challenges you’re up against aren’t unique to you. Today I want to tell you about three of the most common budget problems people face and share how you can solve them.
The first problem is unpredictable income. If you get paid the exact same amount every month, it’s fairly easy to budget. But more and more people today are finding that their incomes fluctuate based on the number of hours they work, the number of assignments they get or a host of other factors.
Now, it’s possible to account for unpredictable income in your budget, but it takes a lot more work.
The second problem is inconsistent payment schedules. The fact is that you have to pay for different expenses at different intervals. You might pay for your utilities monthly, but you go to the grocery once or twice a week. And there are probably things you pay for once or twice a year, too.
Trying to account for those all those variations in a single monthly budget proves too difficult for a lot of people.
The third problem is unexpected expenses. You could work really hard to put together a great budget… but there are likely some expenses coming that you haven’t thought about. When those bills come due, they can wreak havoc on your budget because you haven’t planned for them in advance.
Any of these budgeting problems can be enough to make you want to give up. But there’s an easy solution to all of them: It’s called the Budget Genius, and it’s one of my favorite features of 30 Days to Financial Freedom.
